Game Review
In a tightly contested Bundesliga clash, VfB Stuttgart edged past SC Freiburg with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a late goal from substitute Ermedin Demirović. The match, held on Sunday, 1 February 2026, saw Stuttgart capitalize on their home advantage to secure all three points. The game was largely balanced, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. However, Stuttgart's persistence paid off in the dying moments when Demirović, who came on as a substitute, found the back of the net in the 90th minute. This decisive goal was the culmination of sustained pressure from Stuttgart, who had been probing Freiburg's defense throughout the match. From a tactical standpoint, Stuttgart's manager made five changes to the lineup, introducing Chema Andrés, Chris Führich, Maximilian Mittelstädt, Luca Jaquez, and Ermedin Demirović. These changes seemed to inject fresh energy into the team, particularly Demirović, whose impact was immediate and decisive. On the other hand, SC Freiburg also made five substitutions, bringing in Cyriaque Irié, Lucas Höler, Vincenzo Grifo, Bruno Ogbus, and Patrick Osterhage, but they were unable to alter the course of the game. In terms of individual performances, Deniz Undav (GAP +4.0%) stood out for Stuttgart, contributing significantly to their attacking efforts. Alexander Nübel (GAP +2.6%) was solid in goal, ensuring a clean sheet with some crucial saves. For Freiburg, Matthias Ginter (GAP +2.7%) and Jan-Niklas Beste (GAP +2.6%) were notable in defense, but ultimately, they couldn't prevent the late breakthrough. This result sees VfB Stuttgart continuing their positive form, potentially climbing the Bundesliga table as they build momentum. For SC Freiburg, the defeat is a setback, and they will need to regroup quickly to avoid slipping further down the standings. The match highlighted Stuttgart's resilience and ability to grind out results, a trait that could prove vital as the season progresses.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
